Effective Use of PE and Sports Premium at Mexborough St John the Baptist C of E Primary School 2024-25
Overall Aim
“Every child will enjoy increased participation in sporting activities and develop a healthier lifestyle”
Mexborough St John's School will use its Sports Premium Grant to improve PE and Sports participation across the school and will promote a healthy lifestyle for all children.

We will offer an increasing number of children the opportunity to compete for our school in a rising number of Sporting events and improve the opportunity to develop the excellence of talented pupils. To this end, we now have discrete responsibility for sport, separate to PE.

The 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:
-
The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
-
the profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
-
increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
-
broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
-
increased participation in competitive sport

Sustainability and Impact of Sports Premium Funding at Mexborough St Johns
As part of our commitment to sustaining high-quality physical education, we continue to invest in staff CPD through targeted professional development and the use of a structured, whole-school PE scheme (Get Set 4 PE). This scheme supports differentiation and provides video resources to enhance lesson delivery. In partnership with the Trust we ensure that staff audits and feedback are used effectively to tailor training, further building staff confidence and competence in delivering engaging and inclusive PE lessons.
Active Playgrounds are supported by well-trained playground leaders and staff, with new equipment provided to increase physical activity opportunities throughout the school day. This ongoing investment in PE and playground resources promotes long-term sustainability and active lifestyles.
We have also broadened access to sports competitions across all year groups, ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate. Participation registers are maintained to monitor and celebrate pupil involvement. Strong links with the local high school and other cluster schools support our competitive sport programme, providing varied sporting opportunities for all pupils—including those who are SEND, Pupil Premium, disadvantaged, or girls—while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.
The use of external coaches has enriched our PE curriculum and supported staff professional development, with increased confidence noted through regular staff voice feedback. These strategic actions ensure our Sports Premium continues to make a lasting, meaningful impact for both pupils and staff.
